MISSION - WHAT WE DO
The Survivor Mitzvah Project is dedicated to providing direct and continuous financial aid to elderly and forgotten Jewish Holocaust Survivors scattered throughout 9 countries in Eastern Europe who are sick, impoverished, isolated and in desperate need of food, medicine, caregivers, heat, shelter and some loving kindness.
VISION - GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS
This Holocaust Archive is most extensive collection of materials of the Holocaust in the East, which represents 2.7 million of the 6 million who perished. It is a unique repository of over 500 of hours of never before recorded videography and documentation of first-person Holocaust testimony from the survivors, local witnesses, and rescuers across 9 countries in Eastern Europe. SMP’s Holocaust Educational Archive reflects The Survivor Mitzvah Project’s efforts to bring this history alive creating a dynamic, new, contemporary way to teach the Holocaust to current and future generations, in sync with the digital age. The Survivor Mitzvah Project’s Holocaust Educational Archive will have an impact far into the future, contributing to an important dialogue on justice, tolerance for cultural differences, an appreciation of human commonality and a warning to confront evil wherever it takes hold.
SERVICES - HOW WE DO IT
The Survivor Mitzvah Project is the only organization in the world dedicated to providing direct and continuous financial aid to those elderly and forgotten Holocaust Survivors scattered throughout Eastern Europe who are sick, impoverished, isolated and in urgent need of help. 70% of Holocaust Survivors do not have enough food. 75% of Holocaust Survivors in Ukraine and Belarus suffer from illness due to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. 75% of Holocaust Survivors cannot afford doctors, medications, or surgeries. 50% of Holocaust Survivors are bedridden or have mobility issues and need home caregivers to shop, cook, bathe, and clean. 80% of Holocaust Survivors helped by The Survivor Mitzvah Project live alone or care for disabled spouse or children. 65% of Holocaust Survivors lost their entire life savings during Perestroika, leaving them destitute.
