MISSION - WHAT WE DO

You're Just My Type is dedicated to redefining mental health support for people living with Type 1 diabetes. We create spaces—both in-person and virtual—where Type 1s can find community, share experiences, and feel truly understood. Our events aren’t just about connection; they’re about addressing the mental and emotional weight of diabetes in ways traditional healthcare often overlooks. By prioritizing mental well-being alongside physical health, we’re ensuring that no one has to navigate this journey alone.

SERVICES - HOW WE DO IT

A Southern California native, Laura Pavlakovich was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child, navigating not only the physical demands of the condition but also the mental and emotional weight that comes with it. She remembers being in high school when someone ripped off her insulin pump, not realizing what it was. After that, she begged to get off her pump because she hated the negative attention it brought. She used to unhook her devices before hanging out with friends just so no one would notice or ask questions—she just wanted to feel normal. "I know firsthand the feelings of isolation and embarrassment that can come with the stigma." As she got older, she realized that the mental toll of diabetes could sometimes be worse than the physical toll. What made the biggest difference wasn’t just technology or treatment but the people who truly understood what she was going through. "I started You're Just My Type because I knew what it felt like to feel isolated with this disease, and I wanted to create the kind of support system I wish I had growing up." Through community-building and free mental health events, Laura has made it her mission to shift the conversation around diabetes—not just about what it means to survive with it, but how to truly live with it. "What started as a small idea has turned into a space where hundreds of Type 1s have found connection, and every event reminds me why this work matters.
