MISSION - WHAT WE DO

Friends of The Jewish Community of Mozambique is a U.S. tax-exempt, non-profit organization that is run by volunteers and operates with no overhead. The organization was created to support the Jewish community of Mozambique, Honen Dalim, Associação Comunidade Judaica de Moçambique. This is a small, historic Jewish community located in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique in southern Africa.

SERVICES - HOW WE DO IT

The community holds non-sectarian, multi-lingual (Hebrew-English-Portuguese) services in a uniquely “Maputo style” in a recently renovated, historic synagogue building that dates from 1926. Shabbat, Jewish holidays and life-cycle events are celebrated and opportunities for Jewish learning are available. A historic Jewish cemetery located in the center of the city is maintained and the community also engages in tikkun olam projects in support of the larger Mozambican society.
