MISSION - WHAT WE DO
Children’s Institute’s whole family approach provides support across generations at critical stages throughout their lives. Children’s Institute offers education, counseling, parenting support and care coordination at our early childhood education centers, K-12 schools and in the community.
SERVICES - HOW WE DO IT
Behavioral Health & Wellness As a leader in trauma-informed care, Children’s Institute provides counseling services to children, adolescents, transition-aged youth and parents. Evidence-based practices include Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Child-Parent Psychotherapy, among others. Children’s Institute does whatever it takes to serve the whole family because when families do better, children do better. Early Childhood Education Our early education programs engage children in learning experiences that foster emotional well-being, language and literacy and healthy development. Through these programs, children are prepared to become lifelong learners and parents are empowered to be active participants in their child’s education – building a strong foundation for future success. Strengthening Families Serving children and families involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, our Strengthening Families services promote protective factors and empower families to establish a stable environment, develop support networks, improve parenting skills and prepare for college and/or employment. Community Innovations Working with parents, schools and other community organizations in South LA, these programs raise awareness about trauma and its impact on children. CII’s coalition of community partners offers training, resources and advocacy to increase community resilience and reduce trauma. Community Schools CII partners with a select group of schools and preschools offering comprehensive campus-wide trauma-informed services and supports for all students and parents, including after-school and enrichment activities, parent workshops, and family resource centers. Project Fatherhood Providing comprehensive parenting skills to men in caregiving roles, Project Fatherhood uses an innovative support group model where dads learn to be more loving, responsible parents and active participants in their children’s lives. Community Health Lifelong health is the result of creating a network of holistic support for children and families. We support individuals in achieving educational success and emotional-wellbeing while also supporting the coordination of physical and mental health care services. Our Community Health programs support care coordination, system navigation, and a full range support for health services to improve day-to-day living and wellbeing. These programs include Enhanced Care Management, United Mental Health Promoters, Community Public Health Teams and Children Exposed to Violence - REACH Team.
